South Africa should take a similar approach against New Zealand as they did against them earlier in the tournament when they beat them easily. South Africa go into the semi-final with a great deal of confidence against New Zealand at Eden Gardens. They have been doing everything right in this tournament so far and following are a few tactics they should continue doing against the Kiwis in the knock out clash at Eden Gardens.

What SA Must Do to Defeat NZ in Semi-Final

Pace From the Word Go

South Africa should open with Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada. Both can move the ball and they both hit hard lengths, Marco Jansen with height and bounce reallytroubled the New Zealand batsmen in the opening few overs with the short length. He took out Tim Seifert, Finn Allen, Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman earlier and he is a very hard man to get hold of at the back end. South Africa have every reason to hope that if they take wickets at the start the batsmen will struggle to score runs.

Control in the Middle Overs

If the proteas are bowling, Keshav Maharaj is an ideal candidate to take control in the middle overs, he bowls the ball left-arm spin which helps take speed out of the pitch and so force a mistake.

During their batting, David Miller coming in at number 5 provides South Africa with enough stability and control in the middle ove rwith a middle order which can come in and attack spin and take their matchups.

Aiden Markram's form gives them real stability at the top and if he gives them a solid base, then the middle order can come in and do their work.

Corbin Bosch at the Death

The big strength that South Africa have got, and it was particularly evident against New Zealand last time, was the performance of Corbin Bosch in the death overs. They bowled many of Corbin's death overs during that match, taking it at an excellent run rate. The medium pacer doesn't just rely on yorkers but on hard lengths and bounces at death which is hard to do against Eden Gardens. With 4 or 5 wickets taken by the 15 over mark, Bosch could finish them off here.

There is no need for any big changes to the way they are approaching things. The key to their success seems to be taking early wickets and controlling the middle overs with the spin and then have the right bowler for the death over to finish the job. I believe that this approach again would be suitable for them here at Eden Gardens and it will lead them to a spot in the final.
