A beloved restaurant in a historic village has devastated customers after announcing its immediate closure. The owner of Delve, a bistro and bar in Greater Manchester, made the announcement yesterday, just weeks after it was put up for sale.

Earlier this year, owner Jamie Collins had announced he was looking to sell Delve in the village of Delph, Saddleworth, due to family circumstances. At the time, he explained the business, which had been located in a beautfiul former bank serving seasonal-produce and an ecclectic brunch menu, would still trade as normal until a new owner was found.

However, on March 18, Mr Collins confirmed he made the "difficult decision" to shut the restaurant in a post on social media, due to "personal and professional factors", with no further explanation.

The message said: "It is with a heavy heart I announce the closure of Delve with immediate effect. After careful consideration of personal and professional factors, I know this is the right decision, although it has not been an easy one to make.

"Delve has meant so much to me and I am incredibly grateful for all of the support. All suppliers and staff will be paid in full and will be contacted in due course. I can only thank you for your support.

He confirmed customers could redeem any unused gift vouchers at a sister site, Diggle Lock, which would be unaffected by the closure, or they could get in touch via email for a full refund.

A few customers speculated that the closure was down to Labour, with one writing that the Government had "a lot to answer for".

Several industry figures have blamed Rachel Reeves for the struggling hospitality industry, after she increased employer National Insurance contributions.

The industry has also been hit hard by minimum wage increases, employing a large number of younger entry-level colleagues. Companies such as JD Wetherspoon have also called out sprialling energy costs, and high taxes on food.

Devastated customers showed their support online, with one responding: "Oh no, not another closure, this is so sad. Had some great times in there over the years."

A second said it was "very sad" and described the country restaurant as a "fantastic place" with "superb food".
