During the nineteenth over of the match between Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings at Mullanpur, GT batter Rahul Tewatia was caught in an odd chaos after his bat failed to pass the ring of the umpires.

When he came in to bat, the umpire did a routine bat check. But the ring got stuck at Tewatia's bat's bulge. Tewatia then ran towards the dugout to change the bat. and finally resumed.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer reviewed the call. The third umpire took an unusually long time—roughly 5 minutes—to confirm the decision. : Before checking the height, the third umpire had to confirm the ball passed within the horizontal "wide" guidelines.

There were reported technical difficulties with the ball-tracking system during this process. However, the decision went in favour of Tewtia.

GT to defend 162 against PBKS

Gujarat Titans posted a competitive 162/6 in 20 overs, though the innings never truly exploded despite solid starts from the top order. After Sai Sudharsan’s brisk 13, skipper Shubman Gill anchored the powerplay with a fluent 39 off 27, laced with six boundaries. Jos Buttler then added 38 off 33, mixing caution with occasional aggression, while Glenn Phillips injected momentum with a quick 25 off 17 to push GT past the 100-run mark.

However, Punjab Kings clawed back brilliantly in the middle and death overs. Vijaykumar Vyshak was the game-changer, finishing with 3/34, removing Phillips, Washington Sundar, and Shahrukh Khan at crucial stages. Yuzvendra Chahal’s 2/28 also hurt GT’s progress, especially with the wickets of Gill and Buttler. Marco Jansen remained the most economical with 1/20 from four overs.

GT’s total was boosted by 14 extras, including 11 wides, largely thanks to Arshdeep Singh’s erratic spell. In the end, the Titans had a fighting score, but one they may feel was 15-20 runs short.
