The assassin bug, which is found among trees and plants, is famous for its cunning. This insect hunts for prey by performing a trick called ‘thanatosis’, which means it remains motionless like a dead object for hours. Its silence is its biggest strength, because when any other small creature comes near it thinking it to be dead, then it suddenly demonstrates its fast speed.
This insect does not move from its place until the prey comes within its reach. Its patience makes it one of the world’s most successful hunters of insects.
This predator sticks dust and mud on its body so that it can hide. Another amazing feature of this is that it carries the skeletons of its old prey on its back, so that the enemies cannot recognize it. When the prey comes near, it pricks it with its sharp beak and releases poison, which melts the prey’s organs from inside.
The praying mantis is another prominent predator in the insect world, which sits with folded hands, making it look as if it is praying. But in reality, it is estimating the distance of its prey. As soon as a fly or grasshopper comes near it, it holds it firmly with its barbed legs.
The antlion makes a deep hole in the sand or loose soil and hides itself under it. When an ant comes to the edge of the pit, it falls straight down due to the sand slipping. The Antlion attacks him from under the sand and does not give him a chance to get out.
Dragonflies are considered to be the most dangerous predator among flying insects, with a capture rate of more than 95 percent. Its large eyes help it see around, allowing it to chase and capture its prey in the air. It can eat its prey while in flight, which makes it the fastest hunter in the sky.
