SRH's Explosive Start in the Southern Derby

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], April 18: In a thrilling encounter at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) achieved a formidable score of 194/9, driven by Abhishek Sharma's record-setting fifty against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the ongoing IPL 2026 season.

For CSK, bowlers Jamie Overton (3/37) and Anshul Kamboj (3/22) were particularly impressive, with Mukesh Choudhary also contributing with two key wickets (2/21).

After opting to bat first, SRH began steadily, reaching 23 without loss in the initial three overs before accelerating during the powerplay.

Abhishek, alongside Travis Head, took control in the fifth over, scoring 15 runs off Anshul Kamboj and breaking free from early pressure. The young left-handed batsman reached his fifty in just 15 balls, setting a new SRH record for the fastest fifty in IPL history, surpassing his previous record of 16 balls against the Mumbai Indians in the 2024 season.

However, CSK quickly retaliated in the sixth over, with Mukesh Choudhary dismissing both set batsmen in rapid succession.

Travis Head scored 23 runs off 20 balls, while SRH captain Ishan Kishan was out for a golden duck, leaving the team at 75/2 at the end of the powerplay. This quick double strike brought CSK back into the match after SRH's explosive start threatened to dominate early on.

On the last ball of the eighth over, pacer Jamie Overton took the vital wicket of Abhishek Sharma, who scored a blistering 59 off 22 balls, including four fours and four sixes. At the halfway mark, Hyderabad stood at 112/3.

Overton continued his impressive performance by dismissing Aniket Verma for just two runs on the first ball of the 11th over. SRH then regained some momentum with a series of boundaries, reaching 131/4 by the end of the 12th over.

Just as SRH seemed to be gaining the upper hand, Jamie Overton struck again, taking out Nitish Reddy for 12 runs on the fifth ball of the 14th over. By the end of the 15th over, Sunrisers Hyderabad had crossed the 150-run threshold, sitting at 154/5.

On the second ball of the 16th over, bowled by Noor Ahmad, Heinrich Klaasen reached his 10th IPL half-century off just 33 deliveries. SRH continued to build momentum, reaching 177/5 after 17 overs as runs flowed steadily.

In the 18th over, Anshul Kamboj made a crucial breakthrough for CSK, dismissing Heinrich Klaasen for 59 off 39 balls, which included six fours and two sixes.

In the 19th over, Gurjapneet Singh made his mark by taking his first wicket on the very first ball, dismissing Salil Arora for 13 runs.
