Kemi Badenoch has slammed the Prime Minister in a bombshell four-word statement, whilst appearing on Good Morning Britain. The Conservative party leader was welcomed to the ITV show on Monday morning by presenters Ed Balls and Susanna Reid as they questioned her about the latest scandal in politics.
There has been mounting pressure for Sir Keir Starmer to resign after it came to light that disgraced Lord Peter Mandelson had raised some red flags in security checks but was still appointed as an ambassador. Badenoch ripped into the Prime Minister as she said: "This man is incompetent." She told the ITV hosts: "So many careers have been ended over this, but the Prime Minister is not taking responsibility. He is throwing everybody under a bus... How many people is Keir Starmer going to blame for something that, at the end of the day, was his responsibility?"
She then added that she believes that Starmer "has been dishonest". She continued: "The Prime Minister was on telly, telling everyone that Peter Mandelson had passed the vetting and not a single person in the civil service told him 'no, this was not the case'.
"It is inconceivable, let's accept that even for a moment. That means that this man is incompetent. He did not ask any questions, even in the middle of a scandal, he was not saying 'bring me everything, I want to see what has gone on'. He didn't do that.
"If that is how he was running an appointment, then how was he running the economy? If he is not asking questions about this, then what else is he not asking questions about?"
Fans at home had very mixed reactions while watching the interview. Posting to X, formerly Twitter, one person wrote: "Listening to Kemi Badenoch on #GMB this morning made complete sense.
"We all make mistakes, we're all human but it's how you own them & we come back from them. Do I think it's time for Keir to go, ABSOLUTELY!"
However, someone else said: "Kemi Badenoch has launched an attack on Keir Starmer, saying he's lost the moral right to govern, following the Peter Mandelson vetting scandal. However the Conservatives has had scandal after scandal during their recent time in office. #GMB."
