Netflix has sent fans into a frenzy by teasing the return of one of its most celebrated programmes five years after it came to an end.
Money Heist, or La Casa de Papel in its native Spanish, centres on a gang of seasoned criminals, headed by the mysterious Professor (played by Álvaro Morte), who orchestrate two elaborate and high-stakes robberies targeting the Royal Mint of Spain and the Bank of Spain.
Narrated from the viewpoint of one of the thieves, codenamed Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó), the Spanish thriller ranks amongst the streaming giant's most successful series in its history, drawing to a close with a dramatic fifth season in 2021.
Yet this weekend (Saturday, 9th May), Netflix has rekindled fans' enthusiasm for the show with an enigmatic new trailer confirming its revival, reports the Mirror.
Details regarding a potential sixth season, or perhaps a further spin-off joining the prequel series focused on the charismatic thief Berlin (Pedro Alonso), remain tightly guarded for now.
What is certain is that the story is far from finished, with Netflix tantalising viewers: "The revolution isn't over yet. The world of LA CASA DE PAPEL continues..."
The announcement has proved divisive among Money Heist devotees, with many delighted at the prospect of their favourite characters making a comeback, while others remain firmly of the opinion that the series has already had its day.
One Redditor commented: "I was not expecting this but wanted to have another one. Looking forward!!" One viewer confessed: "I know they're milking it at this point but I'm still very excited."
Another speculated: "It's official heist continuation announcement but [I don't think] it's season 6 announcement."
The buzz carried over to X, where one enthusiastic fan declared: "Greatest series of all time will be back on our screen soon with new episodes."
However, not everyone was convinced, with one user claiming: "I'm sorry but it's too late." Another fumed: "we left la casa in 2021 bro, let it go!!"
One sceptical viewer also questioned how a Money Heist continuation could possibly work, writing: "Are they broke already? Where do they plan on robbing again?"
Notwithstanding the divided reaction, Money Heist remains regarded by a large number of devoted followers as one of Netflix's finest offerings, with one IMDb reviewer describing it as "a phenomenal crime drama".
"This show is extremely exciting for the most part and was the quickest I had watched a show back to back," they added. "It is extremely addicting, since you are always curious as to what the gang are getting themselves into."
For those yet to experience the series, Netflix's thrilling new announcement serves as the perfect prompt to immerse yourself in the world of La Casa de Papel without delay.
Money Heist is available to stream on Netflix.
