Straus Creamery announced a ice cream recall across 17 US states due to potential presence of ‘metal fragments.’ The company announced the recall on Thursday, May 14, while the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published the recall notice on May 15. According to the company, only specific production runs identified by their “best by” dates are affected.

The recalled products were distributed to retailers in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin and had been on store shelves beginning May 4.

“No injuries have been reported,” the California-based company said in the recall notice. Adding, “The company is taking this action out of an abundance of caution and has implemented appropriate corrective actions.”


Straus Family Creamery said the FDA has been informed of the voluntary recall and that it is working with retailers to remove the affected products from store shelves.

Consumers who purchased the recalled ice cream have been advised to throw the products away and not consume them. The company also said customers should not return the recalled items to stores.

The company said the ice cream comes in paper cups with a seal and lid in pint and quart sizes. Consumers can find the “best by” date printed in black on the outside bottom of the container.
