jakarta [इंडोनेशिया]July 5 (ANI): India made a great start to its campaign at the U-19 Asian Boxing Championships. World Boxing Futures Cup gold medalist Chandrika Pujari and silver medalist Joyshree Devi registered emphatic wins on the opening day in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Competing in the preliminary round, Chandrika defeated Mongolia's Lakham Sendbaatar in the girls' 51kg category for a unanimous 5-0 win, according to a press release. After this, Joyshree also performed equally impressively in the girls' 54 kg category by winning the match against Chen Ning Hong of Chinese Taipei in the second round via Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) and secured her place in the next round.
The Boxing Federation of India has fielded a strong contingent in both the U-19 and U-23 categories, with 20 boxers competing in each age group. The championship is an important platform for India's next generation to test themselves against the best players in Asia, as the country looks to build on its recent success and maintain its dominance on the continental stage.
India's campaign continues on Monday with a strong quartet of U-23 male boxers ready to step into the ring. Asian champion Vishwanath Suresh (50kg) will open his bout against Uzbekistan's Amirbek Ismoilov, after which Ganga (55kg) will face Mongolia's Amglanbaatar Bulgankhu. Sagar Jakhar (60kg) will next take on Japan's Koichi Nakayama, while Hitesh (70kg) will conclude the day's action against Chinese Taipei's Jun-Zhanglin, as India look to build on their impressive start in Jakarta.
