Honda isn’t exactly known for putting giant engines in motorcycles — that’s more of a Harley Davidson or Indian thing. That said, Honda does make bikes for just about the entirety of the motorcycle market, ranging from a little bike like the Honda Ruckus or the Grom mini motorcycle, to superbike sports monsters like the CBR1000RR. We know the smallest Honda engine is the 49cc one-cylinder in the aforementioned Ruckus, but what about the biggest Honda motorcycle engine you can get your hands on in 2026? Funnily enough, it isn’t the 1000cc four-cylinder in the CBR1000RR, but the much more sane Honda Goldwing with its 1833cc six-cylinder.

All Goldwings are powered by the same engine and can be equipped with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The engine puts out 125 horsepower and 125 foot-pounds of torque, or about 10 more horsepower than a 2001 Honda Civic LX.

Smooth power

1833ccs puts the Goldwing’s engine at a greater displacement than the engine in quite a few cars, but a big engine makes sense in the Goldwing. Not only does it need the oomph to move (the Goldwing weighs about 800 pounds without a rider), but a big engine lends itself well to long journeys, which the Goldwing excels at. It hits maximum power at 5,500 rpm, revealing it to be an sizable engine that doesn’t work very hard. For comparison, it’s not unusual for a sports bike to exceed 10,000 rpm, much like the 2025 Ducati Panigale V4. It’s kind of like putting a Chevy LS engine in a Suburban.

Despite the heft, the Goldwing is surprisingly fuel efficient, with enthusiasts on forums reporting upwards of 50 miles per gallon.  Overall, Honda’s biggest motorcycle engine isn’t super flashy or really associated with speed at all. It belongs to a big touring bike with enough creature comforts and amenities for the driver to compete with a car.
