New Delhi. A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding investigation into cases of missing, kidnapping and forced transportation of children. In the petition, a demand has been made to create a uniform system to investigate such incidents across the country. Along with this, there has been a demand to complete the investigation within the stipulated time, adopt special investigation process and create dedicated courts for speedy hearing of cases.

What did the Supreme Court do on the petition?

The Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant has sought answers from the Center and the states in the matter. This bench also includes Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana. The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Central Government, all the states and union territories as well as the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Law and Justice, Ministry of Home Affairs and the Law Commission.

What is the main demand of the petitioner?

This PIL has been filed by advocate and petitioner Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay. It was presented in the Supreme Court through advocate-on-record Ashwani Kumar Dubey. The petition demands that there should be a uniform system across the country to investigate cases of kidnapping and forced transportation of children. In this, a special demand has been made for time bound investigation and special investigation process.
