Nani says that when a Hindi film performs well in different parts of the country, it is called a Hindi film. But when a South Indian film becomes popular among the audiences of multiple languages, the tag of Pan India film is added to it. Nani said that he does not want any such label with his films.
In the press meet, when Nani was asked about Pan India tag and releasing the film in different languages, he expressed his views clearly. He said that when a Hindi film performs well, it is called a Hindi film, but when a South film becomes successful, it is called a Pan India film. According to Nani, he does not like to call his films Pan India films.
To explain his point, Nani gave the example of Shahrukh Khan's films Pathan and Jawan. He said that even if Hindi films like Jawan or Pathan perform well in Tamil, Telugu or other languages, they are not called Pan India films. They are called Hindi films only. In such a situation, Nani raised the question why the same rule is not adopted for South Indian films.
Nani said that he does not understand why the word Pan India is associated especially with South films. His statement is being linked to the ongoing debate in the film industry regarding the identity of films on the basis of language and region. However, Nani also clarified that he is not against taking his films to audiences in different languages.
The actor said that he wishes that his films reach audiences in different languages including Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. According to him, this is a normal process and he has no problem with a film being released in more languages. His objection is only regarding the Pan India tag.
Nani also said that he cannot stop anyone from using the word for his films. As an artiste, he can only express his views and request people to keep his films away from this tag. He made it clear that his aim is to reach the audience in as many languages as possible but there is no need for any special label for this.
The pair of Nani and director Shrikant Odela will be seen together once again for The Paradise. Both have previously worked in films like Dussehra. Now before the release of The Paradise, Nani's statement on Pan India cinema is further increasing the discussion about the film.
