Patna : Chief secretary Pratyaya Amrit on Thursday asked district magistrates and superintendents of police to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards crime and ensure the administration’s authority was visible on the ground.




Chairing a high-level law and order review meeting through videoconferencing, Amrit asked DMs and SPs to strengthen public safety and maintain the rule of law. He said there could be no compromise with the administration’s “iqbal” (prestige) and stressed the need for visible changes on the ground.




Amrit asked SPs to take full responsibility for law and order in their districts and directed them to intensify patrolling, increase field visits and strengthen monitoring at the sub-divisional level. He also ordered strict action against police officers found underperforming or showing a lack of seriousness in dealing with crime, saying such officers should be removed from their posts.




Police units were directed to remain active and alert on roads, with checkpoints set up at strategic locations wherever required. Referring to recent incidents, Amrit appreciated the prompt action by Jamui police and asked other districts to follow suit.




To strengthen ground-level monitoring, police headquarters officials will be assigned to districts, where they will undertake field visits and stay overnight. They will monitor the law and order situation and report ground realities to headquarters.




With the festive season approaching, Amrit asked DMs and SPs to step up vigilance, strengthen local intelligence networks and ensure adequate security arrangements. He also directed officials to take immediate legal action against those deliberately spreading fake news or misinformation capable of disturbing social harmony or public order.




Amrit said the performance of DMs and SPs would be assessed continuously on the basis of their response to incidents, public feedback and the impact of security measures on the ground.
