Hisar : In response to a call by Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), farmers staged protests outside BJP offices in Hisar and Hansi on Saturday. They also burnt an effigy of chief minister Nayab Singh Saini over alleged lapses in minimum support price (MSP) procurement. Police personnel were deployed as protesters marched from a local rest house to the BJP office in Hisar.
Farmer leaders alleged that despite the govt’s assurance of procuring 24 crops at MSP, growers were not getting fair prices. SKM member Surender Mann said farmers had locked market committee offices on Oct 14 to press their demands, but no concrete action followed.
Shamsher Numberdar claimed moong was selling at Rs 7,300 to Rs 7,800 per quintal against its MSP of Rs 8,781, while bajra fetched Rs 1,900 to Rs 2,100 against its MSP of Rs 2,900. He also said paddy had been lying in mandis for nearly a month.
Sadanand Rajli demanded assured MSP procurement for paddy, moong and bajra, alleging that intermittent procurement and crops lying in the open were causing losses. Protesters also raised concerns over DAP fertiliser shortage and alleged black marketing.
The leaders warned that the agitation would continue until their demands were met and said similar protests had been planned outside BJP offices across Haryana .
